Diodorus Siculus (100 - 30 BCE) lived in Sicily (thus the "Siculus") in the first century BCE, and was about the same age as Julius Caesar.  He wrote a history of the world, from the Creation all the way up to his own time, which he called, The Library of History, consisting of a total of 40 "books."  In Book 17, Diodorus concentrates on the 12-year reign of Alexander the Great.  Although Diodorus wrote some 300 years after Alexander's reign, he is actually closer to him in time than any of the other authors whose words have survived the Dark Age.

This Loeb Classical Library book contains "Book 17" of Diodorus' Library of History, which focuses on the 12-year reign of Alexander the Great.  It also contains the last part of  "Book 16," which covers the final ten years of the reign of Alexander's father, the notorious Philip II.  The book provides the original Greek on the left page, and an English translation on the right.  In his preface to Book 17, Diodorus says, "Alexander accomplished great things in a short space of time, and by his acumen and courage surpassed in the magnitude of his achievements all kings whose memory is recorded from the beginning of time."
